"The BuildHQ team recently built a deck and pergola at our house which is in a flame zone rated area. The team brought so much knowledge about what was required to be compliant with the bushfire building code and were able to construct a deck that we love!"

Common questions

Deck construction & replacement, answered

How much does a deck replacement or new deck cost?

Most deck replacement and new deck construction projects across Sydney's North & Hills District run between $5,000 and $50,000, depending on size, decking material (hardwood vs composite), substructure and site access. We provide a fixed, written quote before any work starts, so there are no surprise extras.

Should I replace my old deck or repair it?

It depends on the condition of the substructure. If the frame and footings are sound, we can often replace just the decking boards; if there's rot, movement or the deck was never built to current standards, a full rebuild is usually the safer, more cost-effective option long-term. We'll assess this on-site as part of your quote.

Do you build both timber and composite decks?

Yes — we work with both natural hardwood and low-maintenance composite decking, and can talk through the trade-offs for your budget, look and how you use the space.

Do you handle bushfire (BAL) compliant decks?

Yes. We're experienced building decks and pergolas to bushfire attack level (BAL) requirements for homes in flame-zone rated areas, which is common across parts of the Hills District.

How long does a typical deck construction or replacement take?

A straightforward deck replacement is often completed within one to two weeks; larger new-build decks and combined deck-and-pergola projects can take several weeks depending on scope. We'll give you a realistic timeframe as part of your quote.
